Hi Brad,

This is exactly what I have done and it has worked quite well!
Thank you for getting back to me.

Kind regards,

David

Hi David,

There are lots of ways. One would be to use
randi
to generate the x, y, and z grid indices for the centre of each sphere, and again for the radius. Pass these values to
makeBall
, and then use the ball mask to modify the background sound speed and density. Then call this in a loop for as many times as you need spheres. If you want to place them in a cubic region, just restrict the range of indices when you call
randi
.

Brad.

Hello,

I hope you can help me.
I'm new to K-wave (and MATLAB until relatively recently).

As part of a university project I am attempting to create a simulated B-mode image of a tissue mass with a spherical tumour within it.

To distinguish the tumour from the bulk tissue, I plan to use Effective Scatterer Diameter (ESD) as a distinguishing parameter, and see over a range of values what difference in ESD is required between the bulk tissue and tumour in order to identify the tumour on a B-mode image.

I am attempting to modify the "Simulating B-mode Ultrasound Images Example" for my purposes.
I wish to replace the three spheres with one spherical (or cubic) region which contains a number of smaller spheres (representing my effective scatterers). The diameter of these smaller spheres will vary over a small range, as will their speed of sound values (just like the three spheres in the example currently do).

Can you suggest how I might create this mass of spheres?

Any help at all would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

David
