&#60;p&#62;Good question. You could choose it by trial-and-error, ie. experience. Or you could choose it by using a line search at each iteration, as mentioned in the example (see &#60;a href=&#34;https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_search&#34;&#62;here&#60;/a&#62;), although that will require extra valuations of the forward model. In &#60;a href=&#34;https://doi.org/10.1088/1361-6560/61/24/8908&#34;&#62;this paper&#60;/a&#62;, we set the step-size by estimating a Lipschitz constant.&#60;/p&#62;
