Hi Andrea,

Can you put a colorbar on the images, and compare the size of the artefact to the size of the waves when they are still within the solid? I'm wondering whether this is some kind of instability, or just very small waves that haven't been absorbed by the PML. You could also try extending the bone region completely into the PML at both ends (so it is periodic without any corners).

Brad.

Dr.Treeby,

Yes, it is after the waves have left the domain. I am not sure how I can compare them because the initial wave starts in the liquid and artefacts' region is in the solid medium. I am sure bone is not within the PML.

Best regards,
Andrea

Hi Andrea,

Is this after all the waves have left the domain? How big are the artefacts compare to the initial amplitude of your waves? If you make sure the bone is not within the PML, do you see the same effect?

Hello Dr.Treeby,

Thanks for the useful toolbox. I run a similar simulation medium in this paper (The Contribution of Shear Wave Absorption to Ultrasound Heating in Bones: Coupled Elastic and Thermal Modeling). After I run a 100-microsecond elastic simulation that has bone and water mediums, I get a problem around the boundary. I didn't get the same problem when I run for a 50-microsecond. I am not sure if I get this problem because I put the bone and PML adjacent. Simulation parameters: dx=dy=50e-6, cfl=0.055, same bone properties as you mentioned in your paper. The maximum pressure figure is here: https://imgur.com/a/lMCWxwe

Best regards,
Andrea
