Simulations Time vs. Absorption Coeffiecitents

Hi Bradley,

Thank you for this useful simulation toolbox. Could briefly explain or direct me to any sources which explain why simulation time increases with higher absorption values in elastic simulations?

For instance, when I try to run simulations with bone absorption coefficients (compressional absorption = 8.83, shear absorption = 19.5, grid size = 1024 x 2048 ), the simulation times is around 4 hours. Are there any ways to lower simulation time?

Hi Anil,

Do you set the timestep size yourself, or let the code do it automatically? If you let it do it automatically then it might be shorter for higher absorption, as it will be chosen so that the simulation runs stably. You could test this by setting the timestep yourself and seeing how large you can make it before the simulation becomes unstable.
